Hello! I’m linking up with Shay & Erika to share how we’re working it and making our homes cozy. You can see some of my previous Workin’ It posts here.
I learned how to make my home cozy from my Mom! She always had the house looking great and I’m not sure how, but it is definitely something she is just good at π To me a cozy home is one that can be easily lived in, tells the family story, and just makes you want to snuggle up lol.
To achieve those things in our home I fill it with pictures of us, family, and friends. My mom was always taking pictures of us and we got several professional photos each year (Easter, Halloween, Christmas) and while sometimes we dreaded it I’m very thankful for the memories captured! We still get family photos each year and they’re always some of my favorites.
I leave afghans and blankets within reach when you’re on the couch, with plenty of pillows too! This makes getting comfy so much easier.
I have a cute bowl of M&Ms handy, I wish I could leave it sitting out but a certain beagle can jump up on our counters when we aren’t home π
I decorate for seasons & holidays. I think this keeps our home fun and festive, plus my mom ALWAYS decorated our home for just about everything.
I let the toy fluff stay right where it is…dog toys are constantly being destroyed and I don’t even try to keep up with the mess, so it gets picked up weekly and that is good enough for us!
I also try to make our house homey for my husband too. A lot of the things I do are to mimic what home was and is to me but I want to be sure to do the same for him too! So we’ve got bits of Arizona scattered throughout too including some cactus and this Arizona candle π I also let my husband haul this big racing chair and his computer out to the living room every now and then, it usually stays for a month or so! And his guitars are within reach at any moment, which is actually my absolute favorite because he’ll often pick one up to play a couple songs here or there and even takes requests!
Lastly, I don’t have anything that I would be devastated to lose out in the open, well with the exception of my wedding hairpiece that was destroyed within months after wearing it because it sat on my dresser and one day a beagle decided he was over it but it taught me a really great lesson so I’m fine. With 2 crazy beagles things are always getting chewed up or broken and I do my best to just get over it and move on. This makes living in our house easy, no one has to worry about touching the wrong thing or breaking anything!

I never thought about it until you mentioned, but I also learned about a cozy and comfortable home from my mom. Love your trick or treat plate and fall touches around your house!

Thank you Jaclyn!!! Funny how much we don’t realize the things we pick up from our parents or family. It wasn’t until recently that I realized I learned a lot of homemaking from my Mom, when someone asked why I decorated for seasons/holidays so much – well, my mom just always did so I guess its normal to me! π
