Today is another Show & Tell with Andrea, we are talking about serving others. To see previous Show & Tell topics click on over here. When I was first thinking about the topic of serving others I felt discouraged because I couldn’t come up with any big ways that I serve others. However, then I thought of Church of the Small Things that I read over the summer and was reminded it isn’t about the big things but actually all the little things. So I started brainstorming some more with this in mind and came up with quite a few I thought were worth sharing!
I volunteer as an advisor for my sorority, Alpha Phi. I spend time attending meetings every month or so on campus and provide constant support via calls, text, and email on a weekly, sometimes almost daily, basis. I truly enjoy it and consider it an honor to be able to mentor my chapter!
I’ve shared before about my favorite little RAoK that you can read more on over here. We recently were recipients of a Random Act of Kindness too, when we went to grab bagels for breakfast a couple weeks ago someone had already left money to pay for our order and it was such a nice surprise.
I haven’t been as diligent in the last year or so, but I do try to donate blood when I am able to. I think this is a really easy way to serve others if you are able, plus you never know if you might be on the other end needing blood someday.
Coming up soon is Giving Tuesday, I shared a post here last year and plan to do the same again this year. Our family chooses to donate and support Beagle Freedom Project & Vet Ranch, I think we’ll be adding one other this year as well!
Some of the even smaller things that I do frequently to serve those closest to me include:
- sending mail – sometimes random notes or cards, but also I try to remember to send cards of celebration for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. I love receiving mail and sending it to!
- packing lunch – I pack my husband’s lunch almost every day and I’ll even sometimes add in cookies or other treats so he knows I’m intentionally packing a lunch and not just throwing it together.
- baking goodies – I like to try to keep baked goods in our home since my husband is a cookie monster, but also to offer to anyone who might visit and sometimes we’ll take them to work to share as well.
- I always keep homemade frozen dog treats on hand through the summer to reward the beags after a walk, I’ve made them homemade food and other treats too.
How do you serve others? I’d love more ideas to add to my list!

All great ways to serve. Serving is so rewarding when you choose wisely and it lines up with your own gifts. l love how you noted the intentionality behind something as simple as packing a lunch.
