Linking up with Shay & Erika to share how we are Workin’ It this Wednesday, it is all about planning for the holidays right now! To me, planning for the holidays is all about prepping your heart and home. Things like festive decor, preparing to host, and getting those Christmas gifts crossed off!
I took down my Halloween decor and switched over to Thanksgiving just a couple days into November and if I’m honest I might even switch to Christmas before Thanksgiving GASP! 😉 I think having a festive home just sets the tone and puts you in a cheery spirit, especially around the holidays. I’ll share more of my Thanksgiving decor later this month, you can also see my home decorated last year here.

To prepare our home for hosting the holidays I make sure we’ve got plenty of clean blankets & pillows for everyone to keep comfy & cozy. I also love to pull out all my little serving dishes, including bowls for candy or trays for cookies. I go through my kitchen to make sure I’ve got what I’ll need for all the holiday meals, like utensils, dishes, meat thermometers, all those little things that you might not think about until the last minute…I try to think about them well in advance to give myself time to pick them up at the store!
Â
Finally, gifts are on my list! I keep a running list of gift ideas throughout most of the year. If I hear someone mention something they might want or need I add it to my list or if I come across something online I’ll save the link or add a picture of something I see in store. I really start getting serious about this list and start making purchases in October usually, I want to get a head start before the busyness of the season! Plus I think it helps to spread out our purchases over several months rather than the last months of the year being so expensive.

Oh and because we live in Michigan we’ll get our outdoor Christmas lights put up before Thanksgiving and hopefully before it gets too cold or snowy! That is how I am planning for the holidays right now! What are some tips or tricks you have for preparing for the coming months?
