I thought I’d share a little bit about how we decided to name our baby, Ronald Robert Morris IV. Obviously he is a 4th so he is named after his dad/grandpa/great grandpa but how did we come about ultimately choosing it…
We didn’t even talk names until we knew the gender because I didn’t want to waste any efforts lol, and even then we waited a bit before having more serious discussions on names. I’ve never been one to have a running list of names since I was a teen or anything like that. However, I have always strongly felt that since my husband & I both have “R” names that I’d like to continue it with our kids. So we started with looking at names beginning with R. We ended up making a list of probably less than 10 and then narrowed to 3 to take with us to the hospital and decide once we met our baby, obviously one of those name choices was Ronald so we didn’t really have to come up with that one π
After I had my scare following childbirth, which you can read here, later that night/morning I recalled a memory I had had with my Grandma. When she was ill and in at home hospice care near the end of her life we spent a lot of time by her side for probably 6 weeks. I went home to my parents every weekend for over a month to spend time with her. One of the times I was sitting with her and thought she was sleeping but she started a convo telling me that I would have twins. My Gma always had kind of another sense, many times she predicted things – sometimes it was a little kooky but it was always entertaining. Well, until she told me I would have twins and I said no ma’am lol! But then she said that first I would have a boy and name him Ronald. I’m not sure why I never really thought of that story during my pregnancy, I do wonder if she somehow sent me that memory after I had him.
Then at the same time while I was in surgery post childbirth, my husband was with our son and so very worried about me. He had no clue what to do with a crying newborn baby and he was basically alone. He told me some time after we were reunited that while he was so nervous he actually had a peace come over him that he felt was my Papa telling him I was okay & that he could stop worrying and focus on our Ronald.
The next morning after our son was born at night, we asked each other what his name was and we both just said it had to be Ronald. We shared our stories and it just felt right, as if any other name was never an option. So while obviously Ronald Robert Morris comes from my husband’s family I still feel like my family played a part in it too. We also felt that the name has served all the previous men so very well and is a real strong name, setting our son up for the same successes!!

What an amazing story!! We decided we liked the name Olivia before we even got pregnant and then once we told my husband’s family our choice, we found out my husband’s great grandmother was named Olivia and he had no idea! It’s always crazy to see how all the puzzle pieces fit together. I love the strong family tradition of naming him a family name. And now I’m super curious to see if you have twins next!!
