What I’m Reading

September 17, 2018 by Rechelle 8 Comments

I have reached my goal for the year of reading 36 books! Today I’m sharing those I’ve completed in the last month, as always you can keep up with me on Goodreads šŸ˜‰

First up was The Marriage Lie by Kimberly Belle, this was in audiobook form and I could NOT stop listening! I found myself telling my husband about the events that were unfolding and listening in any free moment I could just to see how it would end. There were definitely some twists & turns that I wasn’t expecting, it was a really good book.
From Goodreads: “Everyone has secrets. Iris and Will have been married for seven years, and their marriage is as close to perfect as it can be. But on the morning Will leaves for a business trip to Florida, Iris’ happy world comes to an abrupt halt. Another plane headed for Seattle has crashed into a field, killing everyone on board, and, according to the airline, Will was one of the passengers. Grief stricken and confused, Iris is convinced it all must be a huge misunderstanding. Why did Will lie about where he was going? What is in Seattle? And what else had he lied about? As Iris sets off on a desperate quest to find out what her husband was keeping from her, the answers she receives will shock her to her very core.”
On our flights to/from Kansas City I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows as an eBook, I actually came across it on sale for $1.99 a month or so ago after seeing previews for the movie on Netflix. I LOVED this book! It was so unique in that the story is told only through letters. I fell in love with the characters & found myself dreaming about a trip to Guernsey. I also have to note that I was so excited to watch this on Netflix after reading and was SO let down by the movie! Please, just read the book on this one šŸ˜‰ I know I would have enjoyed the movie if I hadn’t read the book but the book is just SO MUCH BETTER!
From Goodreads: “January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb…

As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends—and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society—born as a spur-of-the-moment alibi when its members were discovered breaking curfew by the Germans occupying their island—boasts a charming, funny, deeply human cast of characters, from pig farmers to phrenologists, literature lovers all.

Juliet begins a remarkable correspondence with the society’s members, learning about their island, their taste in books, and the impact the recent German occupation has had on their lives. Captivated by their stories, she sets sail for Guernsey, and what she finds will change her forever.

Written with warmth and humor as a series of letters, this novel is a celebration of the written word in all its guises and of finding connection in the most surprising ways.”
Finally, I’d Rather Be Reading by Anne Bogel. I actually came across this author on Instagram, followed her and then subscribed to her email list which was what led me to pre-ordering it. This book is petite and pretty and I just adored it! If you truly have a passion for reading, I highly recommend this one! It also would make a sweet little gift šŸ™‚
From Goodreads: “For so many people, reading isn’t just a hobby or a way to pass the time–it’s a lifestyle. Our books shape us, define us, enchant us, and even sometimes infuriate us. Our books are a part of who we are as people, and we can’t imagine life without them.
I’d Rather Be ReadingĀ is the perfect literary companion for everyone who feels that way. In this collection of charming and relatable reflections on the reading life, beloved blogger and author Anne Bogel leads readers to remember the book that first hooked them, the place where they first fell in love with reading, and all of the moments afterward that helped make them the reader they are today. Known as a reading tastemaker through her popular podcastĀ What Should I Read Next?, Bogel invites book lovers into a community of like-minded people to discover new ways to approach literature, learn fascinating new things about books and publishing, and reflect on the role reading plays in their lives.”
What are you reading? Still a little early but I am looking forward to picking up some Christmas & winter books soon šŸ™‚

Happy Monday Rechelle. Hope you and the pups had a good weekend. The cover design of ā€œI’d Rather Be Readingā€ is very pretty. I just finished Debbie Macomber’s latest book ā€œCottage by the Seaā€. It was heart stirring and brought tears and laughs. It’s about the human spirit and love. I recommend it to you. I had a hard time getting off the sofa because I was so into it. Have a good week.
