Linking up with Jana Says & Life according to Steph to share my recent reads. You can follow me on Goodreads here too & keep up throughout the month.
This book was entertaining and I enjoyed it. It follows Lilian as a widow & single mother as she starts to get a grasp on her life. The story explores some deep topics while also at other times being incredibly hilarious. It was an easy read that I went through pretty quickly too.
Great summer read! This book alternates between two women, Gray & Diana, and I was unsure at first how the story of each would tie together since the women seem to be so different. Gray’s husband left her for his assistant, her mother has died of cancer, and she’s lost touch with her sister to her extremist husband. Diana loses her job after breaking up with her boyfriend & moving out, leaving her homeless. What I enjoyed most about this book was the ever present theme of friendship!
I’d had this book recommended to me months ago and put a hold on the ebook at my library. I only read a short portion before it was due back & moved on to the next reader – in large part due to me not prioritizing reading it before it was returned. I put another hold request on it after it was returned & just now finally it was my turn to read it again, this time around I certainly saw the urgency for needing to actually finish the book. This is no doubt a hard book to read. I found it to be eye opening, clear, & in no way harsh – as in the is honest and not mean or demeaning. The first step is recognizing our problems & coming to terms with them, so that we can do the work to correct ourselves! Once we know better, we can do better. This book focuses more on pointing out our racist flaws, where they lie, and just how deep they truly go.
I am so very nearly done with this book below and am really enjoying it! Working on a better balance of reading for joy & reading for education the remainder of this year. And to celebrate a mini milestone…we are not quite half way through the year yet but I am half way to my goal of reading 36 books this year, 2 books ahead of schedule right now – excited about that!

It is always a bummer when the library doesn’t have a book you want, love supporting local bookstores too though! Just finished The Light We Lost this morning and loved it!!

I also read The Light We Lost a couple years ago. I remember being drawn into the story while also disliking the main character. I loved seeing the picture of your beagles! I also have a beagle that we adopted in December and I love her so much!!

Awe, we sure do love our rescue beagles too! 🙂
