Joining again to link up for Show Us Your Books this month! I LOVE reading book review & getting recommendations from others so this is always a fun one for me to share π

I really enjoyed reading this book! We’ve all been asked who we’d like to meet or have dinner with dead or alive, this book takes a fun spin on that and the dinner actually happens. It went back and forth from present during the dinner & past of how some events unfolded in the main characters life. I mostly found it fun to think about who I might actually choose & why if I did or did not know that the dinner would actually take place. Very easy, quick read and a story that tugs at your heart a little too. I rated 4 out of 5

This one was really interesting! To be honest there are 3 main female characters across 3 time periods plus their supporting characters so it did take me a bit to follow & keep track of everything, it probably wasn’t until almost half way through that I felt like I really had a handle on that. Once I did have a clear understanding of each story line though I could not read fast enough! The way the book wraps up though did blow my mind and made for a really fun story! I rated 3 out 5

My sister had this book and shared it with me after she saw it was made a movie on Netflix. I still love me a Young Adult book so this filled that spot for me! It follows Violet & Finch through the difficulties of being a teen & high school & just life in general. Disclaimer: suicide is a topic of the book and I don’t love how a lot of YA books address it but I also recognize that it is a very real topic. Overall I thought this was beautifully written. I then watched the movie on Netflix and wasn’t in love. I think had I not read the book first it would’ve been a fine movie but too many precious details of the book were left out. I rated 4 out of 5

What are you reading?
I have The Dinner List on my kindle app, I’ll have to think about reading it!
It was a really quick read for me and filled the time while I was waiting for another book to arrive!
I am so excited that people are reviewing books today because I just got my Kindle charged again for the first time in like a year… And I need some new books! π
I read All the Bright Places, but still need to watch the movie. All The Ways has been on my to read list.
I’d be interested in what you think of the movie!
I’ve never known who I’d add to my dinner list “dead or alive,” so I wasn’t as interested in the book. I read All The Bright Places last month too, and really liked it! I like to read the book before watching the show/movie, but now that you’ve said the movie left out so much, I’m not sure I want to watch it!
The movie was a let down for sure, following such a great read!
I read/ watched All the Bright Places too (not having a clue it was about mental health– somehow?!).. but I did think the book was much better. The Ways we Said Goodbye sounds like something I’d really enjoy.
Books are always better π
i can’t believe i still haven;t read all the bright places. need to get on it so i can watch the movie!
Yes, do!
I actually like when YA books address mental health issues since it’s something so many of them experience and it’s good to see those stories reflected in books (although maybe not quite as sensationalized as it was in 13 Reasons Why). That said, All the Bright Places had me sobbing for days and days. Not sure I’ll watch them movie. I probably will eventually.
I agree, I think it is great that they address it! My concern is just the way it is sometimes portrayed, I thought All the Bright Places book did it well but not the movie and like you said 13 Reasons Why was way to sensationalized. My heart still aches from All the Bright Places too!
Glad I read what you had to say about All the Bright Places on Netflix because I intend to watch it, but I loved the book, so I don’t feel the need to rush to watch the movie.
I was so excited to watch the movie, I watched it the day after I finished the book, but it did let me down :\
So I haven’t read “All The Bright Places” yet but I saw the movie on Netflix…during this pandemic…I thought it would be a Young Love story and I was thrown by the tragedy and it sent me into a crying fit because that is all it took during this difficult time…sigh…I probably would’ve enjoyed the book more too
Oh goodness, I would agree not the best for the current events!
I loved All the Bright Places so much. I sobbed long and loud at the end of that one.
Ugh yes, all the emotions!
All the Bright Places has been on my TBR for so long. And I own The Dinner List but haven’t read that one yet either. Someday…
So many books, never enough time to read them all!!
The Dinner List sounds amusing π I enjoyed All the Ways as well. And I love book movie tie-ins – maybe I’ll read All The Bright Places just to compare. Take care of you and yours!
I always enjoy the thrill of reading a book & watching the movie to compare! Thanks, same to you π
I’ve seen The Dinner List a few times this month. Perhaps its a sign to add it to my TBR pile. Thanks for sharing!
It was a really quick read that I enjoyed, filled the time while I was waiting on another book that was arriving soon!
