I couldn’t miss out on the chance to join this link up! Today, I’m joining Andrea at Momfessionals.
I’ve had my share of pets, all dogs except one, and they each have meant so much to me. I suppose I had a couple of fish through my childhood too but since I don’t really remember them I’m not counting those.
First up was Sullivan, we called him Sully. Maybe you know Coconut, from American Girl, he is a West Highland White Terrier (Westie). My sister took one look and was OBSESSED. So obsessed in fact that she was persistent enough with my parents until we finally brought Sully home. I was around 10 when we got him and unfortunately he died when I was in middle school. It certainly wasn’t easy but it did lead us to our next dog.
Murphy was such a great dog. It’s hard to even put words together to describe him so I think I’ll let the pictures talk. I sadly spent more years away from him as I went off to college, but I think he might always be my favorite little brother. He was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 4, not long after I headed off to college actually and thank goodness my parents paid a ton and a half for the surgery to remove his tumor. Murphy ended up giving us ten great years of Westie love!
In college both my boyfriend (now husband) and I really wanted a dog, but college life obviously wasn’t ideal for it. Plus we moved every 3 months due to our school schedule (an explanation for another time). So we decided on a hedgehog. Holly Mae was sweet, cute and incredibly low maintenance – all perfect qualities for college kids.
Then came Henry. Both our dogs deserve a post of their own so I’ll keep it brief here. Hank made me a beagle mom, something I never even knew I wanted to be but something I’ll forever claim. Hank is beagle through and through. We lucked out rescuing this guy, he is a once in a lifetime dog.
We added Harold to our family just a year ago and made our beagle ranch official. Hal is a rescue as well and is the sweetest dog ever. He has a little heart shape on his forehead that sums him up perfectly, Hal is our little lover.
Finally, my parents recently got their third Westie, Finley, also known as Little Devil. He is certainly the cutest but he has been quite the handful. He’s still a puppy so he has some growing up to do. I might still refer to him as Little Devil forever though, that’s what you do to little brothers right? 😉
I truly believe our pets are so much more than just an animal. I’ve had such different and meaningful relationships with each of my pets listed above and can not imagine life without them.
Come back on Friday to see some of my favorites from the week!

I love this! I grew up with Westies too! My parents had to put our second/last one down last year. They aren’t quite ready to give up traveling, but I’m sure when they’re ready for another, they will get a Westie. I myself REALLY want one, I think it would be hilarious to have a Great Dane and Westie!!
