On this day four years ago Ron asked me to marry him! So I thought it was the perfect opportunity to share our proposal story and engagement pictures by our favorite photographer, Lynzee 🙂
At the time, Ron was graduated and working full time for Chrysler while I was finishing up with my last few months of school/co-op. We were living together in our apartment in Holly and had been together almost four years.
It all started with an email with the subject line: Holy Cow! He didn’t actually propose to me through email but the set up for the actual proposal was initiated by email and I’m so happy to have that email to look back on, LOL! Basically he told me that a friend/co-worker had won a gift certificate to a local fancy and historic restaurant, the Holly Hotel, but they hadn’t got a chance to use it and it was expiring on Friday so they gave it to us.
I believed the whole set up all week! I never once had a thought or suspicion that this might be a proposal! We had discussed marriage and getting engaged a couple times but never really talked about when. We were just happy together and I was focused on graduating. So Ron set up the reservation and that was that. I think Friday morning I asked him to double check to make sure he had the gift certificate and he even sat the fake one out on the table, if I had looked it over I would have known because it was so obviously fake!
Fast forward to Friday afternoon/evening…Ron often drove work vehicles to/from work as part of his job, well it turned out the Jeep he had been driving the past couple weeks he was not going to be taking for the weekend and he had forgotten his personal car keys at home. So he had some slight panic of getting a ride home because what I didn’t know was that Ron had to stop at the Holly Hotel on the way home to drop off the ring and make sure all plans were a go.
Anyway, Ron got home in a frenzy and I could tell he was really flustered by it all. He quick changed clothes and was ready to go when we still had plenty of time to wait HA! I got dressed and I think we sat around for a little while before heading out.
We were seated in a small room with four tables, our table had candles and rose petals. We had never been to the Holly Hotel so I had no idea, I thought it was normal. We ordered the 8 course meal and champagne since I was under the impression we had a $150 gift certificate. The first course was bread and butter, which Ron only ate one small piece and I thought it was because we were about to eat a lot of food but in reality he was just so dang nervous. Then our second course came and our waiter brought out flowers for me and a gift bag for him.
Ron pulled out a box from the bag that he had painted and was on one knee while I was still in awe over getting the roses! Neither of us really remember what he said, even the day after we couldn’t remember, but I SAID YES! We snapped a pic and then the tables turned, I was in such shock that I could hardly eat lol.
I later learned that Ron had picked out the ring almost 2.5 months prior, it just took him a while to figure out the plan and time to propose! It ended up working out perfectly though because my family was coming down to visit us and go to a Detroit Tigers game the next day our Mother’s Day tradition. Then the following week we were also headed to Texas for a vacation with his family. So we ended up being able to see both our families soon after the excitement of our engagement!
