Happy Wednesday Friends! I am linking up with Shay & Erika for another How We Wednesday…this month’s topic is Spring Cleaning & Organizing! Click here for some of the tips I shared on this last year 😉
I order a lot of my cleaning products through Grove Collaborative (and if you follow my link and sign up yourself we both get $10)! I can set up a schedule of when I’d like to receive certain products and I don’t ever have to worry about running out of my favorite things, plus I’ve found some new favorites too! Most important is that the products are cruelty free, read more about why we are a cruelty free home here.
Last year I created a little checklist for myself and so I did the same thing again this year, tweaking just a few things! I taped this to the inside of my planner and check things off as I go and so I can plan ahead. It is so much easier for me if I can visually see what I need to get done. I find, for me, it works best to first purge & get rid of everything that isn’t necessary or doesn’t belong. Then with the area empty I clean clean clean. Finally I organize it all as I put the area back together.
Â
I try to break up the Spring Cleaning, I set aside just an hour or two and focus on one area, whatever I can get done is considered a win and I don’t beat myself up about what still may be left. I don’t want to spend my whole weekend or even month just cleaning because I know it will make me cranky and then I’ll be cranky with my family too. Little by little it all gets done, and well if not we’ll survive any way!
Â
This last weekend I spent an hour on Saturday cleaning out the coat closet as well as our laundry room/closet – I purged, cleaned, and reorganized what was left. Then on Sunday I focused on scrubbing both bathrooms in our house top to bottom – this also included purging, getting rid of expired meds, tossing makeup, lotions, etc. During the week I might try to cross off one or two smaller things to keep progress moving and not overwhelm myself but mostly I just focus on daily up keep & cleaning during the week – like dishes, laundry, & picking up around the house.

Do you have a method for spring cleaning or organizing?

I need a master list like yours since I would easily overlook something! I’ve heard great things about the Method cleaning products and will have to check them out.

I just made my list in excel, walked around my house looking at every little thing to add to it – really easy! I’ve loved Method products, definitely give them a try 🙂

You should definitely share your list so we all can use it! It looks helpful!

Glad you like it, just updated the post with a PDF! Thanks for the suggestion Dara 🙂

Thanks, Rechelle. I started spring cleaning after the first of the year and got bogged down. Hopefully your suggestions will get me back on track!
Love, GJ
