HELLO THERE MONDAY! Winding down our weekend here, which pretty much just consisted of watching the race, 24 Hours of Daytona. I’m probably going a little deeper here than needed but hear me out…
So I know that watching a 24 hour sports car race might not sound like fun but I have to admit that for my hubby & I it is. Motorsports is a major interest for my husband (actually just cars in general are) and so over the years I’ve watched & cheered and really come to enjoy it myself – I might even say love it actually!
Instead of groaning when Ron turned the TV to another race I started paying attention, asking questions, and finding my own little things within racing to be interested in. Or when my husband spends many hours in the garage working on the Corvette, I get out there with him! Sometimes I help, or get in the way, or slow him down with all my questions, or even just sit & read, listen to music or a baseball game. The point is I’ve embraced some of my husband’s hobbies so that we can enjoy them together and spend a little more time together too. Something I’d totally recommend trying out ladies 😉
But a quick second back to the interest I’ve developed in racing. First it started in just trying to get to know the racers personally, to make them seem more human I guess – which my husband totally does this too, we’ve watched countless interviews & read many articles together. So I tend to like racing for the people who are in it. Then my husband sent me links to a couple articles on a few women within the racing world and well, I’ve been completely absorbed into #WomenInMotorsports! I. Can. Not. Stop. I just keep finding more & more to follow on social media!
I think I’ve been so inspired not only because these women are just SO BADASS, but also because they feel incredibly relatable. As a female in the male dominated world of engineering, I get it. What I absolutely love though is that what I see from some of these women isn’t them complaining, arguing, or protesting that their industry isn’t fair (even when it totally & clearly isn’t fair). They literally wake up every morning and hustle! They put their entire hearts into racing & leave it all out on the track #LapTimesNotGender. Sure they are fighting to prove themselves, but I think doing it in such a way that is so admirable & respectable, not to mention hard to argue with.
ANYWAY thanks for hearing me out on that…All these photos may not make it seem like an exciting weekend but it was one of the best! We spent a lot of time snuggling, sunbathing, snoozing, eating, and just enjoying each other.
