Today my mom and aunt celebrate their birthday! I won’t mention their age since I guess they might not appreciate that, but they are young folks! π
Each year as I get older I appreciate and understand my mother more. I truly believe that my mom was born with the purpose to be a mother, she was simply just meant to be my mom.
As I pack a lunch for my husband and myself each morning it reminds me of the commitment my mother made in packing my lunch all the way through my senior year! Yes, she is so awesome that she never stopped all while I lived at home π She didn’t pack just any old lunch of pre-packaged stuff either. She made it special, crafting things and tucking in little notes or treats. I easily had the best lunch at school every day. Now I find myself creating the same thing for my husband and I realize I learned it from my momma which makes me happy.
On Wednesdays my mom made cinnamon rolls for breakfast for my sister and I. Sure they were just canned cinnamon rolls, but it was our little thing – I even continued it through college just so I could feel a little piece of home. My mom never ate the cinnamon rolls, I always thought it was because she didn’t like them. I realize now that it was so my sister and I could enjoy our treat of four each, she didn’t want to mess that up. Now when I make cinnamon rolls as a special breakfast treat for Ronald and I, I find myself making sure he has more than me, has the ones with more frosting or the ones unburnt. I want him to enjoy it, the same that my momma wanted for me.
My mom always decorated for every holiday and she went all out. We had goodies waiting for us on Valentines Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, etc…and the house was always festive. It’s plain fun and my mom still does it, she just mails me my holiday goodies instead of them waiting for me at the breakfast table. I still love going home to see some of my favorite pieces of decor on display throughout the year. Now in our home I love to switch up my decor for each holiday and season, because my momma taught me best! (See 4th of July decor here & Summer decor here)
My mom made sure my sister and I were always well dressed and our hair looked good. She laid out clothes for us and yes of course we usually coordinated – I mean she is a twin people, it’s just in her blood for sisters to match. π We always had the perfect shoes, accessories and hair to go with everything. Friends complimented me growing up but it was also what they had grown to expect. In college though so many people were always telling me I had so many shoes to go with everything and accessories too! To me it was just how I had grown up but that was when I realized my mom had given me great style! Ladies my mom is cool, easily cooler than me and she always looks perfectly put together. She can style the best outfits and even now I still go to her for advice on what to wear and I truly value her opinion.
So mom, all those times you thought I wasn’t paying attention or you weren’t sure that what you were doing was going to make a difference or impact – well I was paying attention and I’ve learned a lot thanks to you! Wishing you the happiest of birthdays! I love you, CHEERS!
