Small bathrooms are common place for houses in many areas of the country. A lot of the time, the bathroom is an afterthought and this can leave us with small, cramped spaces filled to the brim with fittings. If you do have a small bathroom, don’t give up hope of a new and fresh design, it’s not about the space you have, it’s how you use that space. I know the bathrooms in our home are small and these tips have given me hope on how to transform the space to make it better work for us!
One shelf vanity unit
One of the great ways you can save some space and also hide your pedestal sink is to buy a unit which will fit around the sink and where you can store your toothbrushes, toothpaste and shower gels out of sight. If you have a shelf above you can also display your towels or even bath bombs. This makes it both cute & functional, yay!
A corner sink
This is one you will want to call Plumbers in to do for you. Installing a cinder sink can be a bit if a pain but it will save you so much space in the long term and give you extra space to walk around the room during the day time.
Use an integrated shower and bath
Rather than have two different places to wash in your bathroom, it is much more practical in this instance to simply buy a bath with a shower screen attached, and then you can install the shower in the wall. This will save you space but still mean that if you fancy a bath, you can have one.
Scrap the bath
If you aren’t bothered about having a bath in your bathroom, get rid of it! You might think this is a risk for selling your home in the future, but it is actually pretty common for people not to have a bath at all. It means that you can simply install a shower cubicle and this will free up a huge chunk of space to use however you want. I had never thought of this option before!
Integrated toilet
One of the biggest annoyances in the bathroom is how ugly your toilet looks against the marble tiles and bright walls. But you can actually hide most of your toilet by purchasing one which is integrated into a cabinet. It means that all you will be able to see is the toilet seat and the flush buttons, you won’t have to see any of the pipework at all.
Use large tiles
If you are tiling the entire bathroom ,you can give the illusion of an expansive space by simply using larger tiles or a large pattern on the walls. It will make the space feel much bigger and give you that extra breath of fresh air you need as you enter the room.
A mirrored cabinet
The more items you can integrate into one, the better. If you aren’t sure whether you can install a cupboard AND a mirror, just install a mirrored cupboard! The ideal spot of this would be above the sink so that you can store your toothbrushes and other items, and you will be able to see yourself when you floss and brush your teeth at night.
Now I’ve got some inspiration and hope to get to work on our small bathrooms a little bit this year! Of course you know I’ll be sharing any progress here 😉
