First and foremost I am so lucky to have my little tribe. I may be outnumbered, but these 3 boys are my everything. Today though I want to share with you my extended tribe. I’m linking up with Andrea!
The tribe I was born into. Family is oh so very important to me. As you may know, I grew up in a small town and actually my cousins lived right next door while my grandparents were just a block away. I think it was a rare day if I didn’t see all of them. My cousins are more like siblings and my aunt is a second mom (in fact she is my mom’s twin). Growing up I never realized how difficult it was going to be having to move away from these people. I think I had always thought we’d all live on the same block for forever, oh how I wish it were true! If there is anything I have learned though it is that home is not a place, my home is simply with these people, my people, my tribe.
The tribe I married in to. Let me tell you, I can not be more thankful for this family. Not only did they raise the wonderful man I married but they have welcomed me as one of their own since the very beginning. Simply put, my in-laws are the best around. They live in Arizona though and we just don’t see them nearly as much as we would like, however visiting them feels just as much like home to me. I also understand it can be tricky merging two families and becoming in-laws, so I do not at all take for granted my relationship with this family of mine. I am very grateful for how well my entire family gets along.
The tribe I chose. I always see the saying that friends are the family you choose. Well, I’d never choose a different family but I will say I picked a fabulous group of girlfriends that are very much my family! These ladies can not be beat, my four years in college were defined by our friendship. Gosh, what I’d give to just live on campus together again – couch lounging, closet raiding, homework copying, and late night life talks – you know, the good stuff. What I love most though is that our friendship is so important to each of us that we still make it a priority to find time for us girls. I am so thankful that these are the women I get to do life with. No one is perfect by any means and we are each quite different but together we are just right, I love my ladies.
I love my tribe and I truly hope they know it every single day.
