Archives for January 2017
Another week down and time for another weekend, HOORAY! I’m sharing my favorites from the week and linking up with Andrea at momfessionals for Friday Favorites 🙂
First up is my week 3 layout for Project 52. My phone died on me earlier this month so I’ve been using an old back up one and the camera stinks which has hindered me in taking photos. I try to grab my husband’s phone when I want to take a pic but it just isn’t always quite as convenient. So I’m hoping to try to continue to get better photos!
I walked into Kroger for milk and a few other items on Tuesday to find they were handing out free bouquets! I was in a grumpy mood from having a bad day and that little act turned my evening right around! It has kept me smiling all week 🙂
GREY’S ANATOMY returned last night so all is right and well!
I finished the Winter Street series by Elin Hilderbrand last night as well and made a trip to the library to return my books and get a couple more. Like a true rebel, only one was one day late and they didn’t even charge me the late fee hehe!
I guess last night was just a great night because Hank also curled up with me and was being SO cute! He likes to snuggle up under a blanket and his favorite spot is tucked behind my legs, makes us both happy 🙂
What were your favorites from the week? Big weekend plans? Stay safe and have fun friends!
What we’re eating this week…
What I’m reminiscing about…
I’m dreaming of warmer days and sunshine. We’ve actually had warmer than usual weather but its been really foggy all day long!
What I’m loving…
I was having a bad day yesterday, not feeling great and just grumpy, I stopped at Kroger to pick up milk after work and they were handing out free bouquets! Sure they were already marked down and they were probably getting rid of them since they were going bad soon but it turned my day/night right around. And reminded me there is lots to be thankful for and not to waste my time being grumpy 🙂
What we’ve been up to…
Ron has had class for his masters on Saturdays and has been working on repainting the frame for the Vette in his free time, its really quite the process! I’ve been heading home on the weekends to spend time with my family and grandma.
What I’m dreading…
Poor little Hal injured his back muscles and has to take it easy for the next month or so. He is still sore and is hesitant to overdo it himself right now so I don’t worry about him hurting himself more. However, once he starts to feel better and thinks he can get back to normal he still needs to rest a while longer and its going to be really difficult to keep his activity down, especially since he is so playful!
What I’m working on…
I received my Petit Vour subscription box last weekend so I’ve been trying out the products for my usual monthly review.
What I’m excited about…
I just can’t think of anything in particular that I’m excited about, other than a few topics that are already listed in my post today. I can assure you I’m always happy and excited though 🙂
What I’m watching/reading…
I’ve just about got the entire Winter Street Series by Elin Hilderbrand completed this month. It has been a GREAT month of reading! Still working on finishing up The Good Wife with my husband.
What I’m listening to…
Lately while I’ve been cleaning or writing blog posts I’ve been watching/listening to Sex and the City. I’ve pretty much already seen them all and they don’t require a lot of attention so it works great!
What I’m wearing…
Mostly just regular jeans and a long sleeve tee with a short sleeve over top.
What I’m doing this weekend…
Meeting up with a friend for brunch! Its been too long!
What I’m looking forward to next month…
What else is new…
Not much else here
BONUS QUESTION: Favorite Bachelor…
I’ve only recently started watching the Bachelor franchise in the last couple years. I’d say Ben Higgins has been my favorite, though I do also like to follow Sean & Catherine Lowe! I think I tend to like the Bachelorette better, but the Bachelor does tend to be full of girl drama! I haven’t tuned in for this season with Bachelor Nick honestly :\
What have you been up to lately?
Hello Monday, hello to a new week! I’ll be linking up with Andrea for her Show & Tell topics again in 2017, first up is all about how our family saves and what we feel is worth a little splurge!
I LOVE to save a little money, I think I probably save much more than I splurge which is a good thing! I try my best to meal plan for a week at a time, I actually just meal planned for 2 weeks (we just started in on week 2). I believe that meal planning helps me stick to a budget, stay healthy by not eating out, and save because I plan with leftovers in mind to pack for lunch. When I sit down to meal plan I also take a look at current sales and use those to my advantage. That way I’m planning meals around items that I can save more money on and get a better bang for my buck!
Another big help I use is coupon and discount apps! We grocery shop mostly at Kroger so I’ll browse and “clip” any deals they have online/on my app – I’ll keep these in mind for when I’m meal planning too of course. I LOVE Target’s Cartwheel app and always keep my deals up to date on that. I also really love to browse the clearance racks at Target, I almost never buy anything full price in that store, I’d rather wait for it to go on clearance 😉
A really important thing to remember and that I am good at is not just buying things because they are on sale – I’ll carry something with me all through the store and then evaluate if I really NEED it.
I also use various cashback/reward type apps, like Ibotta for example. With Ibotta I just have to scan some of the items I buy and snap a pic of the receipt, then I get money back to my account to accumulate and eventually redeem via giftcards or to my paypal account. It takes less than 5 minutes and I can easily earn money. Use multiple apps and get even more credit for your purchases!
I recently started using Grove Collaborative for my household items like soap, cleaners, and health type products. Not every item is cheaper through it so I make sure to be aware but they often have deals or freebies and its easy to make sure I stay stocked on the items. Use my link to get $10 and I get $10 too 🙂
TGIF!!! Its been a long couple weeks and I’m just happy for the weekend. Always linking up with Andrea for Friday Favorites!
Last Friday I told you about Project Life, here is my Week 2 layout for my Project 52! I’m making one photo page every week of the year and then at the end of the year I’ll be able to make a little book to sum up our 2017. The little things are what I try to capture most, just daily life, so I can remember what normal was like right now.
I plan to cut and donate my hair to Wigs for Kids before Valentine’s Day. I started a fundraiser in hopes of raising $1800 since that is the cost of a wig through the program, though the charity does not charge the recipients. Well, I reached my goal! Of course I’d still love to raise more 🙂
On Wednesday I shared my quick and easy fix for hemming my jeans! I’ve got plans to hem another pair and try altering some other clothes, I’ve already patched some jeans for my husband too.
Finally, wrapping up with my 2 absolute faves! When we first got Hank and were still living in our apartment he would crawl under the bed like this every single night with his little hind end still peeking out. It was always how we knew it was bedtime! He doesn’t do it very often anymore so when we witness it we’ve always got to snap a photo to commemorate it! It makes me smile and warms my heart thinking back to our little life back then.
Hal is SO playful and SO snuggly! He is a little injury this week, we think just a small sprain or strain of his muscle, so he has been extra cuddly this week. No need to worry, we are sure to give him ALL the loving he needs to heal 🙂
Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend friends!
HI HI HI! I purchased these jeans in the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and LOVE them! However, they were a little long to wear with anything other than a heel and since I rarely wear heels I was missing my new favorite jeans. So I finally did something to remedy that!
I asked for a sewing machine two Christmases ago so I could do some of my own minor alterations and smaller projects for the house. Though I have to say using my sewing machine has definitely been more intimidating than I was expecting. I was a little nervous to take a chance on hemming my jeans myself since they were pricier and I really love them, I did not want it to go wrong. I have to say though while none of my projects look like professional work I’ve been very impressed with the outcomes and am getting more confident!
This was a really quick and easy project, I don’t know why it took my so long to sit down and do! I started out by trying on my jeans with a few varying shoes to find my desired length. Then I just cuffed them at the length and gently took them off.
Next I measured the cuff, mine measured at about 1.75 inches. I went around each leg and pinned to match the measurement.
Then I prepared my sewing machine and got my jeans set up. You will want to sew as close to the original hem line as possible.
Coming off the sewing machine you can very faintly see the line where I sewed and you can see how i just folded the excess under. You could certainly cut off the excess. I’m going to keep my tucked under for now until I am sure that I don’t need to rip out the seam and redo it.
I ironed all around the hem so it laid more flat and honestly you can not even tell!
I’ve got another pair of jeans that I have just always worn cuffed that I can’t wait to actually properly hem them! Oh and check out my fun socks, get yourself a pair here and see other the other super FUN prints plus get 20% off your first order with my link! Have you completed any DIY projects recently? Do you sew? I’d love to hear any tips and tricks 🙂 See you on Friday with my Faves!
Hello! Today I just needed to take a little break after a busy and tiring week followed by a busy and tiring weekend. After getting home last night my little family curled up on the couch and snuggled in and well, I couldn’t leave these two cuties to blog.
I’ll be back on Wednesday with a regular post! See you then 🙂
I’ve decided to cut 12+ inches of my hair to donate to Wigs for Kids – an organization providing wigs free of charge to children up to age 18 with hair loss due to medical conditions. Since these wigs cost about $1800 to make and maintain I’ve made it my goal to try to raise those funds. I launched a Go Fund Me page in hopes to raise the funds in the next month as I will be cutting and donating my hair before Valentine’s Day. Please help me reach my goal, you can make a donation here.
A while back I shared how Ron and I met. So today I thought I’d share more of our story, our college years.
It is always a happy day when my Petit Vour box arrives! Petit Vour is a monthly vegan & cruelty free beauty subscription box. This is my 4th box from the subscription and I get more excited each time! I’ve had and used these products for over 2 weeks now so its time I share my thoughts with you.
